My particular interest is the understanding of how visual processing gives rise to word recognition and reading, investigated using psychophysical and neuroimaging techniques including fMRI, DTI and MEG. Previous work has investigated the fundamental relationships between letter-string position encoding, dynamic visual attention and visual word recognition. Of interest also is the relationship between cortical plasticity and the acquisition of reading skill, and consequent dysfunction of this relationship such as with dyslexia and color-grapheme synaesthesia. Finally I am also interested in neuroimaging of crossmodal processing and integration arising from multiple sensory inputs, such as with audio-visual language/reading development.
